Set a project deadline
Learn how to set a project deadline in ASAP mode, then in ALAP mode, and what each choice changes on the Gantt chart.

The walkthrough
In two minutes, the video shows how to set a project deadline and what that choice changes in your schedule. You see how to:
- set the deadline of the project;
- schedule in ASAP mode, meaning as early as possible;
- switch to ALAP mode, meaning as late as possible;
- compare the consequences on the Gantt chart.
ASAP or ALAP: what changes on the Gantt
The deadline sets the date by which the project must be finished. The scheduling mode decides how tasks are placed relative to that deadline. The feeding branches, meaning the chains of tasks that feed into the main chain, are the first to be affected:
- in ASAP mode, feeding branches are as early as possible: they are anchored on "Today";
- in ALAP mode, feeding branches are as late as possible.
So the same project, with the same deadline, does not look the same on the Gantt chart depending on the mode. The video shows both cases one after the other so the difference is easy to see.
Worth remembering
The scheduling mode does not change the deadline: it changes when the feeding branches start. As early as possible, they start from "Today". As late as possible, they are pushed back to just before they are needed.
What comes next
If you have not built your plan yet, start by building a project manually. To understand how KairoProject then protects your deadline, watch the critical chain in action and read the guide What is CCPM?.
